Did you get an error message followed by a code?

Have you tried this in cmd or windows powershell (both with admin privileges)?
Quote
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc
Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\SoftwareDistribution.bak
Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
net start wuauserv
net start bits
net start cryptsvc

What I would do first before the above is restart both Windows Update services in the Service panel
Right click toolbar, choose Task Manager
Services tab, on the bottom it should say "Open Services",
Scroll down to Windows Update, and Windows Update Medic....
One at a time stop both services
Then start each services in reverse order

I think it was caused by a Windows Update Server being down

Got a bit buggered by a Win 10 update on my laptop on a job this morning, couple of restarts (when I wanted to be working) and refused to wake later in the morning (some faulty module issue)

Anyway,

I have this on my desktop, but hadn't gotten around to applying it on the laptop.

You can still run manual updates, but those are at a time that suits you...not Microsoft.

MS has cancelled the 1809 update and will feature it during future updates when it's finally all sorted. Just a few games and so on have bugged it totally.
The update thing is changing too. MS is putting it all back in the users' hands.

No wonder.
Imagine you'd landed abroad for a job only to find that your laptop had downloaded an update, which it then applies, and then busts the laptop.

I had a wee update apply at a site last week (I hadn't disabled them on the laptop) and I was bricking it in case it fucked it.

I had a warning about a big update, decided just to go for it and it said Welcome to the October Update....so it ain't new.  :cheesy:

edit- 1809, so not the big one that's due now.

The problem was that it wouldn't install on any machine that had a USB stick in or an external drive. If you removed them then it would install, and you can plug them back in. I'll wait until it's fixed.
