It's been a work in progress for seven years and it was probably lucky that the latest gen of console perform closer to  PC than the last gen consoles, which is where the issues and most of the complaints seem to to lie.
Their statement implies that they struggled to get it running on the last gens but were fortunate that it runs on the latest.

"It's not like we could have decided at any point recently to 'flip the switch' and change the old-gen version to the next-gen version and release only on next-gens," he said. "There is no native next-gen release. The game runs on next-gens and takes advantage of how next-gens are performing, but it's not like we had a next-gen version in our hands and decided to keep it on the shelf."

It was delayed, again and again because they were trying to get it to run on last gen. It may have started life before next gen that doesn't mean it wasn't focusing on next. It is a next gen release. Regardless of the quote. They're not backtracking at all...

You're conflating 'native' with 'last gen'.

If they'd concentrated on what it worked on, you could forgive a few bugs. It works for Bethesda. 

p.s. I only care if it works on PC anyway and I'm waiting to see how the first major patch goes, if it's good, I'll have it.

Cyberpunk Patch 1.05 has stabilised my fps anyway. Previously it was all over the place, but now they've fixed the AMD six cores or below not being utilised fully.

I got RDR2 sort of cheap, which is basically GTA on horseback so been playing a lot more of that than I thought I would.
Biggest problem was the persistent sound issues (the sound would continually cut out until you double tapped ESC to break out of game and back in), but finally got it sussed..
Because I have a 4K monitor, any res below 4K isn't actually running true fullscreen, it's Windowed Borderless, which gives background apps the opportunity to interrupt. Once I'd set the res to 4K and dropped a lot of settings to get it running smoothly, the problem disappeared.

Watch dogs legion, spent over 3 hours crashing (remote hack) cars into the houses of Parliament and into coppers(pigs) and this is the most fun I've had in ages.
