Apart from a few flagship games to highlight new features, they've always been a bit meh and something for the fanboys (not complaining, they drive development).
I've always had a price point of no more than £350 for a new card, so I'm usually a gen back (or more), but more games might use the features they bring by the time I buy that thing.

The thing that would push me to upgrade from my GTX 970 is a 1440 monitor. I am considering that.

I bought a 4K monitor and it's not worth the hassle.
I run games at 1920 or 2440 and all my desktop apps had to be scaled up to make the text readable.

btw, do you mean a 144Hz monitor?

I didn't. I meant the next resolution up from my 1920x1200. The monitor is a good ten years old. Still working fine mind, a Dell.

Ahh...2440x1440?

That's a pretty good res (it's what I'm using for Shadow of the Tomb Raider).

I think you need two on a 4K monitor at a decent framerate.

Vid on YouTube and it's running at 35fps on a 1080ti at 4K Ultra.

It's always the same with these kind of titles and it's rare that 4K is even worth going for, given most are developed to be ported to/from 1920x1080 console displays.
If you take the framerate hit and go for the full bhoona @ 4K there isn't much difference over 2440x1440, if any.
I didn't see any difference on Far Cry 5 and haven't really toyed with 4K on SotTR.

I'm not bothered about a 4K monitor (a new 4K telly maybe), just a step up in resolution. Perhaps. I'm only thinking out loud, as it were. I still much prefer 1920x1200 compared to 1920x1080.

I bought the 4K for productivity, but didn't think it through.
It's all weell and good having x amount of documents available on a single screen, but if the text is too small to read you're no better off than you were before once you scale them up.  :azn:

Much that I'd like a larger, fancier monitor I think I'll stick to my Samsung 27" curved with FreeSync.
What I'd really like is the Asus RX Vega 64...

My first computer, including CRT monitor, cost about that, in the same number of £, in 1996. Which means it was way, way more in real money now.

It always has been. If you compare the rig I mentioned above in today's money it would be £2500. Certainly stung at the time.

That's different, it was early days for most of the components.

This article shows what I mean (from a quick scan, got an early job on this morning): https://venturebeat.com/2018/09/19/nvidia-rtx-2080-ti-review/
p.s. Nvidia seem to be another bunch of pricks for whom currency conversion rates don't exist (or is that because of our 20% VAT?).

Different States have different sales tax paid on point of sale so we can't compare.
Our VAT is a pain but I'm not sure what the alternative is if we want our MPs to have lots of extras in the Government canteen.

What I'm saying is that  the likes of Apple see $1000 as being the equivalent of £1000...and it's not.

No deal in my book.

To pull an old phrase out of the bag, my head doesn't button up the back.
