Landlines

I'm paying £20 per month for a landline I use about a dozen times a year.
That's about £19 per call...on top of the charges they apply when I do use it.

That's getting binned I reckon.
VoIP is about a fiver a month...with less spam.

I prefer my landline for calls. No spam because of Talktalk's neat scheme. I pay £5/m for all non-premium calls.

+line rental...so around £24pm

I don't think TT do BB only, so you probably don't have an option, but I could switch to Virgin Vivid and pay less for 350MB than I currently do with my phone and BB package.

£37 including VDSL and line boosters.
I have three DECT phones about the house; I don't carry my  mobile in the house as it's way too expensive and fragile.

My house is tiny but almost everyone* calls me on my mobile.
If I don't get to it, I'll call them back...eventually.

Except my mum.
Who'll sometimes call my landline from her mobile when she hits the wrong option.

Ok, so they're not pointless yet...but increasingly so.

I've only got a landline as it comes with my BB and TV package.
It's so yesteryear. The only people I've spoken with on it in the year are Pakistanis and Indians trying to scam me. Which is good fun, admittedly.

I think Karen's mum phones it too.
Which is why I don't answer it.

I think there’s a need for them.

Businesses use them, while they are good for emergencies if the mobile phone runs out of battery charge

You don't need a landline in emergencies at all..

What if the battery goes flat and, you got no charger? Yeah, we have battery packs for sure, but what if you forget?

I very rarely us a land line, except to call the ISP when things go wrong lol.
If I want to call someone who isn't on Whatsapp or Skype, I use Skype credit which is really cheap for all landlines and mobiles worldwide. Frankly, I don't know why we have it, but her Adri likes it for her work and I can't convince her otherwise.

I'm doing audits for Specsavers and they're using VOIP across the board.
They're not alone, Tesco do the same thing with 4G Cradlepoints and BoostBoxes.

btw, the ones in Specasavers are Samsung units with a big 5G on the side...they're not 5G though, they run over ADSL/Fibre.
A wee bit of corporate bullshit I think (they'll probably say it's the 5th Gen of that particular unit).

It just doesn't make financial sense to have multiple dedicated phone lines, or even PBX systems these days.

(It's probably fair enough if you run a small business though.)
