Title: New Gmail (Browser)
Post by: Wooster on October 05, 2018, 09:43:29 PM
They updated the Gmail browser client and it was hideously slow, but the option was there to revert back to the old version.

Now they've removed the option to go back and users are stuck with the hideously slow version forever.

Maybe it's something to do with the new GDPR policies, so they've added stuff to get around it....like predictive replies that will allow them to scour your previous emails in order to make some useless and entirely unnecessary suggestions.

I might even fire up Outlook and configure it for my various accounts.

That's how bad it is, bloat is preferable to lag.

I'm still using Windows Mail. It's rubbish but clean looking. I'd prefer the old Windows 7 version. Quite versatile.

I've just wasted an hour going around in circles with MS Office 365.

All I wanted to do was install Outlook (that I've paid for), but it won't start because it's looking for a .pst file.

I can't install it because it's signing in with my old free live account, not my business account.
I change the login to my business account and it prompts for the password, which I have, but then prompts for verification (email or text), so opt for text message.
I get that and sign in.
I then use their tool to fix the Outlook error and it asks for verification (but I've signed in), so sign in again and it asks for verification again......seriously wtf!
So it asks for verification again and I get a new text, and a new email, saying that I need to verify my new verification text, but then then sends a new verification text to verify the email that I have just received to  verify the text that I already verified by email and by another verification text.......and it just keeps going around in circles.

I uninstalled Office 365, I'll figure it out tomorrow.
(It always installed the default language as en-us as well, which bugged the fucking life out of me no end.
80 page documents I wrote full of wee spelling and grammar 'errors', such as spelling colour with a u and specialised with an s)

I was given free Office 365 by Godaddy when I set up both the new forum and my Compufix website, however it's very limited and a pain in the ass to access.Anyway, I don't use Outlook 2013 any more due to the problems I've had with corrupt .pst files and stick with Gmail and Hotmail (called confusingly Outlook ffs)
In the end I gave up on it, reinstalled Office 2013 and had to get around the activation limit by other means.

For some reason it's working today.
One of the reinstalls must have done the trick.
